Torch Set Stones

DATES: October 13th and 15th | 12:00pm-2:30pm Eastern Daylight Time | 11:00-1:30 Central Daylight Time | 10:00am – 12:30pm Mountain Daylight Time | 9:00am-11:30am Pacific Daylight Time

In this two-day virtual course, Michael will guide students through a range of innovative techniques for setting stones and beads in place using the torch. Through detailed, demonstration-based instruction, students will observe and learn methods for soldering, fusing, and manipulating wire to create distinctive stone settings. Emphasis will be placed on technique, control, and design approach; giving participants the knowledge and confidence to apply these processes in their own jewelry work.

Format: Live online via Zoom with slide demos, close-up tooling cams, and Q&A

Duration:  Two – 2.5hr sessions

Skill Level: Intermediate–Advanced metalsmiths who are comfortable with torch operation and soldering

Student provided tools and materials:

• Basic fabricating tools (e.g. tweezers, pliers, sheers)
• Torch setup (air acetylene, or oxy/ propane)
• Flex shaft or alternate (e.g. Dremel or micro-motor)
• Super glue (liquid- not gel)
• Super glue accelerator (Rio Grande)
• Particulate dust mask
• Safety glasses
• Pencil, Sharpie, notebook - for notes
• Rags/towel
